Corning Gorilla Glass is now used in over a billion devices

Corning Gorilla Glass
Let’s face it, Corning Gorilla Glass has pretty much become a household name for most of us techies. While Gorilla Glass first got its start on the original iPhone, it has quickly become quite popular on a wide range of mobile devices. Now Corning has even announced that its Gorilla Glass technology has been featured in over one billion devices worldwide.
The statement was part of Corning’s quarterly earnings release, which saw sales for Gorilla Glass reach $363 million for Q3 of 2012. Unfortunately, things aren’t necessarily as good for the company in its other divisions. Overall sales were up seven percent from Q2, but were actually down two percent year over year. There is even a possibility that the company might cut jobs to reduce costs sometime in the near future.
While Corning isn’t the only toughened glass maker out there, its Gorilla Glass technology is clearly a market leader. It is hard to imagine what our smartphones would be like if they were still at risk of total annihilation by our keys, our children and just general rough-use. Corning plans to continue to lead the way with its Gorilla Glass and their upcoming ultra-thin flexible Willow Glass, which is expected to make curved glass surfaces easier and more affordable to produce down the road.
So congrats on your success in the toughened glass industry, Corning. Keep up the good work.
